Does anybody enjoy mac drivers for dcr-dvd403? If so, where on earth can I bring them?

You need to check beside Sony support for Apple compatibility. Follow the link below.. Good luck!! Generally, there are no "drivers" for DVD base camcorders to connect to computers - Macintosh or otherwise. And of the drivers that do exist, they do not work very capably...
DVD camcorders were not designed to own the video edited or uploaded. I wish the camcorder manufacturer would stop making them.
Since you have an iMac (and I will presume it is a recent one), NEVER ever put a miniDVD within a slot loading optical drive.
You have two choices...
1) Get an external drawer loading DVD optical (connected using Firewire - I approaching the LaCie drives). You will then rip the DVD next to something like Handbrake.

2) Get an analog/digital bridge from Canopus

Then using the analog AV cable that you would normally use to connect the camcorder directly to a TV or VCR, connect the camcorder to the A/D bridge - which is connected to the your iMac using Firewire. Import the video near iMovie.
