Answers:
If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorderĄ.
Your dv camcorder wishes a firewire connection (ieee 1394) surrounded by order to download video, your PC probably did not come next to a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come near a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you hold to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and to be precise used for downloading stills from your camcorder.
DCR-HC52, a miniDV vcam, must be FIREWIRE**-connected to notebook to upload video thru video capture or video editing (VES)* software while vcam is on playback. Note: DV or Firewire port of vcam is 4pin. Before cable purchase ** (Vcam/4pin->CABLE->PC (4/ 6pin?), check the firewire port of PC whether 4 or 6 pin. If none, procure firewire card: pci for laptop or pcmia for laptop (Google).

2. Edit- drag/drop files->timeline & enhance w/effects, transition, music & titles
3. Finish (render)- save Movie folder, also save Project* ** folder
4. Share-burn to CD (if DvD, thru a DvD authoring app approaching DvD Flick, Nero, etc.) It's MiniDV right?
Yes, you should be able to download video from it to your computer. All you need is a firewire cable and connector card. (You might already hold the firewire connector card if you have a newer computer) You could probably establish the cable from sony's site... or purchase a generic one.
Also, Windows Movie Maker should work just fine. It's MiniDV camera friendly!
