Backup Camera Nikon D70 or D40x? I was given a brand alien Nikon D300 (18-200mm)
I was given a brand alien Nikon D300 (18-200mm) today in exchange for one of my out-of-date cameras. (I know ... crazy deal). Trying to decide which one I should receive rid of and why ... Any one have any planning?
Both D70 and D40x are in excellent condition. As added bonus the D40x have an extended warranty on it.
I know I should probably keep the D40x but for some purpose am having a concrete time parting next to the D70.
Answers:
keep the d70.it's auto-focus motor worth it.and remember that d70 is one step better than d40,d40x and d60.it's a semi pro camera but d40x is a beginner one.
The D70 will autofocus near the widest range of Nikon mount lenses and give you more control. As nice as the higher resolution and more compact D40x is, I'd stick near the workhorse D70.
Currently I'm using my D200 as my main camera and keeping a D70 for my backup.
By the method, I'd dying of envy over your trade! The D70 is a good camera, but it's also a strident one. Compare you images between the D40x and the D70 and the D40x will not individual be 10mp, but will have cleaner imagery.
The only judgment to keep the D70: it have a built-in lens focusing motor, which allows it to be used with more lenses.
If you've get lenses without a built-in focusing motor (non-AF-S lenses), after that's a good argument for the D70 as your backup.
Otherwise, I'd go and get rid of the D70, as the D40x has better dummy processing. The other minor differences, like two gearstick controls vs. 1 wheel control, I can live next to in a backup.
I hold a number of cameras and the D70 is my smallest favorite. I finally had it converted to infrared photography. I in actuality preferred the D50 to the D70. I think if you filch a few photos, you'll find the D40x to have better print quality than the D70.
