Which camera is right for me? My birthday is in 3 weeks and I am

My birthday is in 3 weeks and I am supposed to be getting a camera from my fiance' but I'm trying to numeral out which one I would like first because if I don't speak up...he will turn out and buy this overly expensive, ridiculously complicated MAN camera. (He's a technology freak)...So I'm trying to figure it out for myself past hand. However...I don't know much give or take a few cameras...all I want mine to do is fit contained by my purse and have it bear clear, detailed pictures. (I want to start scrapbooking with this camera). I don't contemplate there's a price range as long as it's not Wal-Mart competence but not $600 either. If anyone can contribute me some suggestions and links I would greatly appreciate it!

Go to http://dpreview.com and scour for the features, you want in a camera, and compare the cameras, side by side... read the reviews. Most of the "big name" cameras are excellent, I'd stick beside Canon, Nikon, Olympus or Panasonic... Then go to a store, and pedal the different cameras, see which one appeals to you the most.
you want to buy a camera beside at least 6 mega pixls that will lug a good picture. buy a brand you can trust. rotten brands are crap. also look at the shutter speed nothing sucks worse than clicking the button and two second later it take the picure. a half second shutterspeed is righteous. and wallmart does have some fitting cameras they also have crap cameras you newly have to spend the money to capture a good one . First of all dont crash into the trap "the higher the megapixels the better the quality" because i.e. a lie! You stipulation to look for a good lens as this is what give you your image ability (along with the sensor) Generally you retribution for the lens. I'd recommend Canon cameras, all near cameras have great photograph quality, are reliable and terrifically easy to use. You can buy an Ixus 950 IS for AU$399, which is a great price for that camera. Otherwise I would recommend a panasonic lumix (these own Leica lenses = great lens, similar quality to the canons) any the TZ3 or FX-12. the TZ3 (AU$479) has 10 optical zoom and a far-reaching angle which is great for group shots!
Hope this helps
