?Canon S5IS, or Panasonic Fz18 ? I am looking to buy one of these 2

I am looking to buy one of these 2 cameras and am having trouble decide between them. I've read the dpreviews, and other than the Panasonic coming near the rechargeable battery and wider lens... I'm not sure of the advantages of one vs. the other?
If you hold used either or both I would love to hear your view. Thanks.

I'd go near the Panasonic, the Leica lens makes adjectives the difference. I've used both Canon and Panasonic cameras, in the FZ and S series of cameras, the Panasonic's Leica lens, be hands down the better lens. I also found that the Panasonic's photos be less vociferous than those from the Canon. Also, having the rechargeable battery-operated is great (do get an extra battery)
Advantage Panasonic: Zoom continuum and wide angle.

Advantage Canon: Stereo audio and zoom during video recording.

Personally, it frustrates me to no winding up that Canon isn't putting wider lenses on their camera's.

Sigh.. Advantages of the Panasonic DMC-FZ18

18 X zoom vs 12 x on the Canon
Higher (and better) ISO for better noise contraction in overcast photographs
Leica Lens

Advantages to the Canon:
Has the ability to widespread angle and Macro Lenses as add-on as ably as 58 mm filters
Articulating LCD for when you enjoy to hold the camera at odd positions.
Hot shoe allows you to use a better flash
Better system to enjoy ISO and other options at your fingertips fairly than in nested menus

These are really terribly comparable camera in lingo of value and use. Which one is right for you really depends on what you plan on using it for. If you want to pinch pictures without a flash and contained by dark setting (i.e. candlelight) the Panasonic is probably the better choice. Likewise if you tend to set it to "Automatic" and forget it, the Panasonic win.

If however, you want to be able to use filter, change setting frequently, incorporate better flash so you don't wash out your subjects, after the Canon is the better choice.

It should be noted that neither of these camera shoot RAW, so if that is esteemed (but I am guessing it isn't) then neither camera is right. But for the money, contained by the end you are going to catch a decent traffic on either of these cameras.
