when i try to connect it, i get a pane saying something close to: error, abort.. etc.. what do i do?
Answers: Make sure your USB connection is set within the Mass Storage mode. You can then scene your camera as a removable drive using your computers file director .. then freshly use your computer skills to copy the image files from it to your computer.
Sadly, plentifully of the time the PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) doesn't work.
