When reviewing pictures, the date appears on the picture, however when picture is printed the date does not appear. any answers?

Just wondering which settings is the best for taking pics outside, inside etc. with this camera. The camera is going to be used by a apprentice 10 yr old. okay, so i've narrowed my search down to wanting the canon digital radical xt or the nikon d40. i've looked at sample pictures for the both of them and researched for weeks and weeks, and they seem to be like the best trait cameras for an affordable price. blahbla. okay, so i just cant desire which one to get! i already looked at comparison charts, and tally them all up, and they both have tie! (i have my grotesque ways of picking things XD) so, which do you recommend? for an amature photographer? seriously. i want to take flawless photography pictures, but i also want to take ones of folks too. not necessarily portrait ones, but prettty decent. back?
