I own a Nokia 5300 Music Xpress and What I do is just use USB to put songs and Update it, if you get till there, only go to your memory card [not mp3 songs] and find the song step to options and click "Use" consequently click As Ringtone.

Trim the file to roughly 30 seconds using audacity, and convey the file using bluetooth to the phone, or use a memory card.

I use free online tool http://makeownringtone.com but there's a free program call Audacity which allows you to do the same.
