You should be able to only slide it into your ps3...and it should play. Your 80gb ps3 is supposed to hold backward compatibility by software emulation. That medium upwards of 80% of ps2 games will be playable with nothing to minor issues. What country did you buy it in? There shouldn't be any problems if you've get a game on the compatibility detail.
Go to http://www.playstation.com for your country, to find links to the compatibility list for your firmware newspaper. It's different in different regions.
It is simply a list of adjectives the ps2 games that have be tested and are known to be playable on your interpretation of the 80gb ps3. If a game is on that detail, all you should call for to do is put the game surrounded by, browse to it on the XMB, and press the "X" button.

The playstation 3 80gb is only in the region of 75% compatible with PS2 games. Make sure your PS3 is fully updated, later after that simply put in the disc. The spectator sport may or may not work. If it does'nt there is nil to do except, get a PS3 60gb.
