Yeah it is very apt, not as good as window would be or anything, but it's like have another decent cpu

You install it using the PS3's OtherOS functionality. The best general release is probably Yellow Dog 6.0. This have wi-fi and bluetooth support ready enabled.
There isn't any hardware support for the RSX (Graphics processor) though, so you won't see the full PS3' graphics potential.
If you are a programmer it is a great process to experience the Cell processor first hand, and gain a better analysis of why the PS3 is both more powerful and harder to code for than the 360.
