I put my Xbox 360 in a shelf approaching the size of a soda can. I'm not sure if thats the reason of getting the 3 rings of passing. If i buy a cooler will it definently work?

That sounds like it is contained by a spot that is too confined and would end in it to overheat.
We have ours within a entertainment unit shelf, but save the door open when playing and also put it horizontally on one of those telecommunication closet shelves so that air flows around the bottom as in good health as the sides. But it doesn't sound approaching you even have room to put on a pedestal it up on a shelf.
Put your 360 in a spot where on earth there's plenty of room so when the heat comes out, it will budge out to the air. If you compress the upper air space too much, it will cause your 360 to overheat faster. Also, a cooler is really compliant. just remove it from the shelf when you will play near it.
