I haven't been charged on the other hand, and I check them out every now and again. I don't reckon you can really buy anything until you add points to your Nintendo article, which I believe you can only set up online. Yes, these channels are free, but you enjoy to turn on the wiiconnect24 and have standby mode stirring to access them. This will allow your wii to download the content even when it is not in use.
I figure this out sometime last year. Unfortunitely, the wii draws power while contained by standby mode, so I turned it off and achieve my news/weather from my computer.
