Everything is shifting in the tech world so swiftly, it's hard to say-so what will be obsolete and invented subsequent. Hey, I still listen to cassetes, and I miss my Sony Walkman.
I would wait a bit until that time running out and buying the latest invention contained by the DVD related field, and see what's on the horizon.

Eventually. Technology change and people gravitate to the unusual technology. Nothing wrong with vinyl, and when CD's come out, it was expected that vinyl would still verbs to be around for years. But everyone went out and replaced their vinyl collection, which put a huge nouns on the industry to keep up near the demand.
Same beside VHS. When DVD's came out, everyone said the hell next to VHS and there freshly wasn't enough money gone in it for manufacturer to keep making them.
The nice entry about DVD's is that Blu-Ray is simply a variation contained by existing technology, not an entirely different technology. So eventually, the cost of hi-def DVD's will be the same as standard-def, so why not acquire the better quality for matching price? But at least your hoary DVD's will still play on your Blu-Ray equipment.
And, even more eventually, there will be some technology to come along and replace DVD's entirely. When that happen, it's likely that everyone will want to replace their current DVD collection, SD and HD, beside whatever the topical technology is. But that's not going to be for a few years yet.
Have I bought a Blu-Ray player but? Nope. My SD discs and player is good plenty for me. But when the HD stuff costs the same as SD, I'll modify to it. Yes, eventually. High definiton is the future and DVD's don't support HD. You necessitate Blu-ray for a true-HD experience.
