There's a persistent urban fable (or rumor) that goes around roughly letting certain electronic gadget go through metal detectors. It is said that your laptop or iPod will short-circuit, or run through abnormal operation if you let a hand-held or free-standing metal detector outdo over or through it. Is this true? Does something bad occur to any of these electronic gadgets surpass through these security check points within the airports or malls?

I haven't heard of any bring down from it.
When I asked they said it wouldn't bother them.
It didn't bother my laptop. Metal detectors work by sending electricity through a coil. All electricity passing through a line causes a charming field. Magnets can harm hard drives but the amount of current used within a metal detector is very low so it's unlikely.
iPods that don't use a intricate drive would not be affected contained by any way. Plus if that be true, there would probably be some benign of law suit if they destabilized equipment but didn't put up a warning at the airports. I'd directory that under the rumour category unless near is some kind of seriously malfunctioning metal detector out in that.
