It is the element of the camera and film those specific movies be made on.

You can have the most crystal clear advanced tv, but if the untested film wasn't up to par, the motion picture will not show that way on the blind.

It is only as strong as its weakest knit..
Not sure what you mean by static. But from the examples you give, it could be how the movie was originally record. Both movies you mentioned with static are elder, whereas I am legend is newer.

If the static you are seeing is within the shades of black, that is commonplace with LCD's. They tend to not do as ably with black as a plasma does. 1080i or p has little to do w/ the picture point you see. If you have an LCD, they natively scan progressively anyhow - so the difference between the two is purely dependent on the standard of the video processor. If your TV is 1080i it just scheme that the processor can only fiddle with the bandwidth of an interlace source at 1080 resolution (meaning it can't handle the full frame at that resolution coming it at one time). However, the TV have frame memory that holds the picture until the other part of the picture is scan then displays it progressively on the eyeshade. All LCD and plasma sets scan progressively and diagonally.

The "static" you are seeing is most likely any MPEG noise from the compression method or is small piece from the source material. This is rather normal on lots blu-ray movies - especially noticeable surrounded by darker scene.

Hope this information helps. There is nought wrong with your movies, your PS3 or your box.
