And I would suggest putting the contents of the tape onto DVD instead of CD, so you can scrutinize them on any dvd player...
It is kind of an involved process anyway, I recommend checking out a video services company. They can convert your tape to DVD and make it look upright, and even make the physical dvd look moral. And they're generally cheap adequate to be worth you not messing with it for hours trying to digit out what you need and how it works, and why it doesn't look right.
