What is this country going to do next to the television thrown out once the airwaves switch to digital? More..?
1) 118,094,097 households X 2.73 televisions/household = 322,396,884.4 televisions...
2)
1) 118,094,097 households X 2.73 televisions/household = 322,396,884.4 televisions...
2) Toxic chemicals contained by these sets (cathode ray tubes, etc.) that will crawl our landfills...
3) How can the Federal Government make this declaration?! For OUR benefit based upon interest surrounded by our entertainment & PICTURE QUALITY? GIVE ME A BREAK!
4) Consumerism frenzy--We all must buy trial sets? Gee, who is benefiting?! (I know, I know...not everyone has to buy investigational sets...Cable boxes, etc...But appparently we must now buy modern "boxes".) But average price of a new set: MINIMUM $250 X 322,396,884.4 tube sets replaced in America = $80,599,221,109! Who's making this profit? That we adjectives must contribute to?!
YIKES!
5) Is this really Okay?!
6) WHO is behind this?!
7) Why isn't anyone asking these question?!
Answers:
The same entry this country has be doing with TV's thrown out for the end 60 years. Do you really think that society with standard TV's contained by 2008 have owned them since 1949? Somebody probably asked equal question contained by 1954 when the first color TV's hit the market. And newly like 1954, nobody else care. People are going to buy what they want. That's what's called a MARKET-BASED cutback.
you are only misinformed.. as long as you dont have an dated tv with an antenna hooked up to it you will be fine. they can be recycled! but most people are not going to be replacing their TV's. Myself and adjectives my family already use a cable service that uses a cable box, so the adaptation wont effect me.
The amount of people that rush out and replace their TV's merely because of the change is going to be incredibly minimal.
you state that 118,094,097 households.
you can subtract the 70,000,000 households that use a cable service and have a cable box.
that leaves going on for 50 million households.
subtract another 16.5 million for Direct tv users
we are at 33.5 million now.
10 million households own satellite service
now we are at 23.5 million
1.4 million are expected to switch to a cable provider next to a cable digital cable box.
So lets read out we are at 22 million households without some sort of conversion box that will want to do something in direct to continue getting a signal. some of those household though already enjoy TV's with built contained by converters, that number is hard to divide because you don;t know if they also have cable box or not, so for the sake of this we will voice they still need a box. There be also 52.5 million HDTV's sold in the US that do not requirement upgraded 16 million last year alone. If the trend be to continue we could read out that another 16 million will buy new HDTV's this year. so let take that 16 million from the 22 million and we with the sole purpose have 6 million departed.
With the government issuing coupons for the convertes the average price will be roughly speaking $20 for a converter. that is $120,000,000 contained by sales but you want to subtract out the cost of mkaing the units in the order of $40 each, which are mortal sold very cheap probably below cost becuase of the coupons and in a minute we are at -$120,000,000
See I can play with numbers too! ;)
