Home stereo: Can I use speakers beside different impedance(Ohms)? I have a home stereo radio/CD-player near two 8
I have a home stereo radio/CD-player near two 8 Ohm speakers. I also have a another set of two 6 Ohm speakers.
Can I replace the untested speakers with the other ones? Or will the different impedance lead to problems?
What is the effect of using speakers with a lower impedance?
Answers:
yeah logically you can. no problem mate.
The lower the impedance the more power drawn from the amp. if you put 2 ohm speakers on to an amp that needs 8 ohm it will blow up.
The other process round works OK but just not as restructured as using the correct speakers.
Using your 6 ohm speakers is a little risky but may work OK.
teef_au It is true that speakers beside a lower impedence than what the amp is rated for will draw more current from the amp than the amp may know how to handle. However, a moment ago because you connect speakers that are not the correct impedence does not mean the amp is going to "blow up". For the amp to blow up, you would own to be driving the amp hard. As long as you filch it easy and hang on to the volume at a reasonable rank it should be fine.
