Answers:  It depends on what you mean by "smoothing down" A CS-3 is a great pedal. I put it first within line out of my guitar and move off it on all the time. It add sustain an evens out the volume. You can set it so that a light picking or a unhealthy attack on the string will have more or less the same volume. It make for a smoother sound through your distortion pedal. I tried that one, but approaching the Blues Driver better because I don't use a lot of distortion. I approaching distortion of an over-driven tube amp, and maybe for a time more. But that's my taste. There's still ample "grease" in the pedal to do the Hendrix songs our belt does.
