Or you can turn to any second-hand store (thrift store, Goodwill store, etc.) and buy a portable AM radio (or AM/FM) and remove the ferrite rod transmitter from it.

The older hulking radios will usually have a long round rod, while the pocket size radios will hold a short flat rod.
