Ok without getting adjectives technical similar to the guy below me, I'll tell you what's up. I hold both an xbox 360 and a PS3. To be honest they are both GREAT systems. However, you have to look at what respectively system is good at. Xbox 360 have way better shooter games, and the shooters flow so much better. I antipathy shooters on my PS3. If you're more into racing games, and sports games, budge with the PS3 the graphics are much more crisp within those genres. The PS3 also have the blue-ray disc player, so if you have a nice 1080p tv, and you love movies, after that's a big plus. Don't listen to people's biased opinions on which is better. They are both great, it adjectives depends on what YOU want, and what YOU will use it for. The 360 IS cheaper, but when your spending a few hundred dollars for a gaming system anyways, don't short yourself on what you really want.
