Answers:
The Blu-ray Disc player is backwards compatible, meaning that it can play standard DVDs within near high-definition. HD DVD does matching thing.
However, you can't play Blu-ray Discs within standard DVD players. You can play all your outmoded DVDs thorugh a Blu-ray player and the Blu-ray player will upconvert those old DVDs and bring in them look "near HD quality". Now fatefully you can't play Blu-ray movies through a regular DVD player because the laser used in Blu-ray players are blue, but the laser used surrounded by regular DVD players are red.
