If your DVD player is region 1 it will not play Region 2. Region 2 plyer will simply play region 2 disc. A DVD player has to be multi region to to play both regions. Well the Movie industry has broken the world down into "Movie Regions" here is a shortcut to the "MAP"

Yours is set for Region 2 and the movies for that region will play correctly. You may be capable of "UnRegionize" the player, there are some dvd hack available, just do a check out for "DVD Regions" to find out about unlocking the player. Some don't unlock all right.
