Is it legally recognized to backup dvd files on my computer from dvds i win within netflix? i havent done it yet because i didnt know

what happens at your house is up to you, near a couple of exceptions that have to do beside distribution. your license to view the video expires when you return the DVD to Netflix so it is not a backup copy surrounded by any sense of the word.
1. if you carry the video on your ipod and travel to another country, customs will confiscate the ipod as contriband. no arguement. be wary carrying laptops for the same idea.
2. second, if a copy resides on your computer and it is possible to be accessed through the internet by yourself or other inhabitants, you are in big doodoo.
3. any form of copy sharing would be considered distribution and that is to say decidedly illegal, whether or not you still have the Netflix original.
