Why does North America use 120 volts and other countries use 220 volts?
Answers:
there is zilch magic around either number. Japan uses 100 volts. here is also the 50 and 60 cycles difference too. decisions made rear in 1900 verbs to this day, except Canada finally get rid of the 110 volt DC mains. Very long tradition.
120 V was probably considered "safer", but 220V be more efficient to "transport" over power lines. These days transportation of power is done near even higher voltage so the inspired arguments are irrelevant. Even in the US, in attendance are 220V appliances (washers/dryers).
i never knew that! gratefulness for the enlightenment!!
Have not notice that America has to fluctuate, we use 120 volts and gallons instead of liters.
