After a visit near a good friend, I settled to purchase a turntable (mid level - Audio Technica AT-PL120). I am so far, positive with the purchase, but I own trouble determining if the records I own sound approaching they're "supposed to." Like for instance, some of my records enjoy an unmistakable "static" sound between songs, and sometimes during the song. I'm constantly unnerved that I'm ruining my records after reading adjectives of the stories about how it's possible to ruin archives with lately one play. So here's my question: Am I human being paranoid? Seriously...how the hell do I know if what I'm listening to is the course it's supposed to be heard, or if my spinner is messed up? What is the static din I hear? It's a new turntable, so it can't be deteroriation of the tape or stylus. Or can it? Why else would I hear static in between songs? Is it static, or is the potentially poor stylus destroying my precious vinyl? How would I even know if it be?
