Why can I not play a Blu-ray DVD on my computer or on a SonyRDR- VX450.?

Answers:
im not familiar beside the Sony product... is it a blu ray disc player? or does your computer own a blu ray drive? but for they wont play them...you need a compatible drive
Because it isn't a Blu-Ray player.

This is all it can play put a bet on -

"Record and playback on a wide stock of DVD discs: DVD+R / DVD-R / DVD+RW / DVD-RW / DVD+R DL (Double Layer) "

Blu-Ray discs need to be played on special Blu-Ray players.

Most Blu-Ray players cost $400+ (entertainment center type) and for a computer drive cost around $130 for of late a player or $300 for a burner.
Really dude, Really?
As others own said you need a blu-ray player but more importantly you want Vista, Blu-ray drives only play through Vista and wont work on XP

This appears to be a European model VHS/DVD combo recorder. I believe adjectives such combo's are standard DVD only. It apparently archives and plays back standard definition DVDs just, and I assume maybe let you record from VHS to standard DVD. It is not an HD-DVD or BluRay player however. A blue Ray DVD wil play on a Blue ray equiped player. Your computer is probably not Blue Ray rate, so you would need to tweaking the drive later to be Blue Ray compatible.

Sony RDR is an elder model.
Yeah all these population are right its not a blu-ray disc player and they do have them for computers but they are approaching $400 now. Its a different technology later DVD so if you feel resembling spending to much for a new technology jump for it.
The same judgment why it won't make toast.

It's not made to.
you need to bring back a blu-ray disc drive for your computer in establish to watch them
