Vintage Stereo Speakers? I recently moved a double act of electro voice

I recently moved a double act of electro voice interface series 2 speakers and a sansui AU X301/i amplifier that were only just sitting a corner of the lounge room into my room and hooked them up to my xbox, tv and ipod. They were lately sitting around because when we moved house we got a tentative surround sound system. I am wondering how well-mannered the stereo system is, because i estimate it to be over 20 years old. My slowly father bought them before i be born, and according to my mum he was a gear feak, so she reckon they are awsome. The thing is the voluminous cones in the speakers are giving some distortion from prevailing conditions to high stratum volume,so should i get them repaired or buy a exotic system?
Answers:

You already have a system beside surround sound. The problem you are have with the infirm speakers maybe a juddering or a damage contained by the cones. most electrical or 'sound' technicians could fix it for you and will cost you just a small amount solely. Keep it. You don't specify the specific model, but in common these speakers have a upright reputation. See the link for some info.

While the speakers may be undermined in some channel (e.g. a cone could have a small opening, or the cones might have get damp at some point) but in that may other reasons for the distortion. I'd suggest connecting the speakers to another amp (e.g. your surround system) since assuming it's the speakers themselves.

If necessary replacement (8") Woofers are on contribute on eBay for a reasonable price (See 2nd link) ... but lone one day disappeared to bid.
