52" rca will not turn on smell something burning.? A couple weeks back my RCA 52" Rear projection

A couple weeks back my RCA 52" Rear projection turned past its sell-by date while I was watching it. It took me something like 10 tries to get it to come backbone on. Tonight when I tried to turn it on I heard static consequently it went rotten then put money on on (never gave a picture) and go back sour. I smelled something burning so I unplugged it and am now asking for comfort in finding out whats wrong and any theory how much to fix it.
Answers:
It isn't a illustrious voltage problem (shorted flyback transformer or horizontal output transistor) unless the TV is a CRT projection TV.

If this is a DLP projection TV, the static sound and burning smell might be related to the oil lamp module or its power supply (actually not high voltage but elevated current).

Either way (either projection technology) it will probably cost several hundred dollars to fix, unless it is something really simple contained by the DLP power supply.
sounds like you shorted it out, shouldn't be expensive to fix unless it melt something important. Not an uncommon set of symptoms pointing to a shorted flyback transformer, and probably a shorted horizontal output transistor, both of which are within the high voltage branch of the TV.
If this is correct:
You will want a pro and it will likely cost you $400 to $500.

Keep within mind that this is a total guess. I've obviously not looked at your TV and wouldn't stand on this diagnosis short some test reading. This is just a best guess base on years of repairing the darn things.

Edit:
Qlink is right, if you have a DLP my diagnosis is incorrect. I assumed (never a suitable thing to do) that you own a old trend tube-based rear projection. Your symptom is within line beside those models perfectly, but I've not see it in DLP. Still, if you enjoy a DLP, disregard my diagnosis.
