How to advance my existing audio set-up?
Okay, here's what I have: Harman Kardon AVR-320 Receiver High-quality center and periphery speakers. Bi-directional surround speakers, mounted above both ends of the couch. A 50 watt subwoofer. Inputs are any xbox 360, a laptop line-out, or ipod line-out (last two are fairly vague, have to bring beneficiary close to 0dB to get loud enough). From my reading, it's just what the doctor ordered to have a separate pre-amp and amplifier, but the hk's addressee supposedly will suffice as a pre-amp, as long as I get a steadfast amplifier. How much should I consider spending on this, and what are the most important feratures? I know my sub is anodyne, but I don't get various opportunites to blast it anyways. I compensate by only sending just LFE to the sub, have crossover set at 60hz, and allow my lateral speakers to pick up base but no LFE. So the sub solitary kicks contained by during dolby. If I upgrade my sub, should I change this (sending just high frequency to speakers)?

How to fix HDMI DVD player aspect ratio next to widescreen TV?
I have a Vizio 47" 1080p LCD (16:9) and the Sony DVP-NS72HP. I'm using the HDMI 1 input on the 1080p 16:9 TV. When I play a DVD, at hand are black bars for widescreen formats and style too huge black bars contained by anamorphic widescreen formats. You can tell the picture needs to be stretched (vertically only). It's existing easy to relate, as the first film I watch showed an old tube that was supposed to be square and it be rectangular (too wide). The TV has a zoom mode which corrects the ratio, but after you lose the sides of the image. Don't want that. The TV doesn't enjoy a mode that stretches vertically only so. I set the settings support to "4:3 Output" -- "Normal", which displays it in 4:3 and after I use the TV's zoom mode to adjust the image to the proper format. That's the just setting I've changed. Unfortunately, now, the figure just doesn't look as honourable. Is there any other approach to adjust this ? I'm stunned that the DVD player doesn't display the films in the correct aspect ratio. Why does this take place ? I'm confused as to why the widescreen films aren't taking up the full 16:9 display when used over the HDMI input. This didn't happen on my antediluvian DVD player over the component inputs. Thoughts ?
