I chew over it's the aliens trying to get through. You should adopt their call. I hear the beeping on my phone also but I know it's cause by my Telezapper (to remove my phone number from telemarketers databases). It's annoying but I rarely use my home phone anymore!

Mine does that too, sometimes, and it isn't because someone called while I be on the phone. I have call upon waiting, and I would know if it had beep.
