There are several cordless phones offered in the U.K. that hold external antennas to boost signal strength. Will they work in the USA and would they be legally recognized? Why is the USA lagging astern in offering these phones to the public?

No. The D power is different (110 vs 220), the operating frequency is different, and the phone interface circuit is different. you nouns like you are referring to DECT phones... we enjoy DECT phones in the US, but the US phones are 1.9Ghz, the UK phones are 1.8Ghz... they are not compatible...
