What could be wrong near my phone? I pick it up but it says "extension contained
I pick it up but it says "extension contained by use" None are in use?! I tried unplugging them adjectives and plugging them back contained by, still, no dial tone?!
Any tips?

Must be a malfunction near the phone. If you really want to use that particular phone, unplug adjectives the rest, don't plug them back within and try again? Otherwise it might be time for a new one :(
That's really strange though! your phone sounds like it may be defective... Is this a cordless cellular phone? if so remove the power to the main basis unit for several second and plug it back surrounded by, sometimes this will reset the cordless phones..
it also sounds like your phone have a "privacy" feature, where on earth if the line is within use you can not pick up the phone, check your line next to another phone to see if there is dial tone on your dash, as there may be something else wrong near your line...
when you phone up your number do you get a busy signal? check everything to be exact pluged into a phone jack... satellite box, alarm system, fax, dial up or DSL modem...
If no phone is in use later 'ground' has be introduced on your line. This happen when phone wires have be cut or the jack is shorting out.
could be one of the phone or jack is miss up try plunging them within one at a time to check for Dial tone if that don,t help ttrouble coulb be out surrounded by the phone line honourable luck
