First build sure your computer can Rip DVDs.
Then I just follow 2 steps:
1) I use a free DVD decrypter from http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/

Be discreet of which one you buy though, many will not rip DVDs of actual Hollywood movies (your typical DVD) because of the "questionable legality" of doing so. iPod can not support adjectives format files.It can support MP4 format.
If the songs are not mp4 format.You need a convert software to back you convert the songs to MP4 format.And them transfer the songs that be converted to iTunes.
