Can I play my ipod on a tape player near a USB port, or must it hold an actual docking station?
Answers:
all you want is a audio video wire next to a headphone jack one end and red and white lead on the other, then in recent times put the lead into the jack socket on your pod, and hook the red against the red and white against the white and select aux input on the hi fi and your away my friend.

If it doesn't work you could always gain a headphone jack to twin phono(RCA) cable (assuming your hifi has a spare input at the support...)
