apple is worthless when it comes to customer service

try resetting it

and to receive the music off which is the most meaningful (because you paid for it)

use yamipod
I am pretty sure that restoring the factory settings formats the iPod, which means that it will delete EVERYTHING from the iPod. There is a path to backup or get everything rotten the iPod and onto the computer before formating it. You can use multiple different programs to do this. I recommend iDump. You can download it from the web for free, it is smooth to use and only take up 1MB of space. If you want to use it, Google it. iDump, keeps adjectives the song names and album artwork and does not delete anything from your iPod once something, or contained by your case, everything have been moved to a computer. I know that this program is compatible next to PC computers. However, I am not sure about Mac computers.

After adjectives of that, I have never group of an iPod telling you to restore the factory settings. I am reasonably sure it is telling you this because it requests you to update the software on it, which you certainly do not own to do. Or, because it is Mac formated and you have tried to synchronize notes from a PC computer. Sure, it makes the iPod accomplish better and it becomes more reorganized. But, in your valise, I would not restore the factory settings. If you think that you requirement to do it, then follow what I enjoy said in the first Paragraph...
Good Luck :)

Try resetting your ipod first it wont erase your songs. Press the center and menu buttons at matching time until the apple appears I honestly don't know if you will be able to fix it short Restoring it to original settings.
But i suggest making an appointment at an Apple store ,and seeing what they can do going on for it!
