There are several variations on the DVB standard. DVB-T is optimised for estate based transmitters to fixed recieves. This is the system used by Freeview.

DVB-S is used by satelite. Because here are less reflection from hills but more loss, DVB-S uses different error correction.

DVB-C is used by cable TV and is the simplest standard as cable networks own known parameter.

DVB-H is a future standard for mobile phones and handheld TVs.

This is one explanation why a Freeview box won't normally work next to a cable feed etc.
As above - it is just another first name for Freeview.
