Can I hook up my laptop to my cable box/dvr to burn shows/movies to dvd? Hi, I have Time Warner Cable and my cable

Hi, I have Time Warner Cable and my cable box have a built in dvr, but the dvd player I own doesn't record and I looked-for to transfer some of my favorite shows/movies to dvds to free up space on my dvr for adjectives recordings (I didn't realize what the size/capacity was and I terminated up losing a bunch of shows when I recorded hot ones on my dvr). Can I hook up my computer or laptop (both have dvd burners) to my dvr to spawn copies of the shows I want to keep? I hear that it's possible, but I'm technologically challenge and I don't know what I'd need to do/buy to breed this work. First, is it possible? And second, how can I do it? Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it as pretty much everyone I know is at my same stratum in jargon of understanding technology, etc... :)
Answers:  You would call for a DVD burner in your computer and a tuner card for it.
You will not know how to record any copy protected shows close to HBO, Etc.
