I hold Directv and I think it's better - especially for HD - more channel and better quality than any cable company. The HD DVR have the 50 hrs HD/200 hrs standard memory - this is usually as high as a dvr go.
I have NEVER have a problem with weather affecting my reception including through clouds, snow, snow on dish. That may a moment ago mean direct hd have an amped up signal (the satellite is only a year ancient or so).

A not on the weather. It have to be raining EXTREMELY hard for you to lose or carry a weak signal. I tight can't see your hands surrounded by front of your face hard". Then, once the rainfall slacks in a minute or two you get hold of it back. I've have my cable go out for DAYS for no plea whatsoever. If your losing your sat signal when it freshly rains rather or it's cloudy then you're sit was installed correctly and you enjoy a weak signal. I live within an area prone to T storms and I can count on one foot I've lost my service due to the weather.
I also agree with the poster in connection with HD. DirectTV has more HD channel than anyone and it's only close to $9.95 a month for about 70 of them not counting your premiums.

cable... becasue you can use the TIVO HD. contrary to the ads.... satellite and cable companies dvrs are inferior to tivo... tivo have tivotogo, and multimedia features as well as a plesent to use menu system. plus they are hackable. do not use the comcast dvr because it isnt tivo. tivo rules and customers perfectionism about graphical menus
Weather can cause poor reception on dish systems. It can do impossible to tell apart to cable systems but because of stronger receiving systems cable is smaller amount susceptable.

i enjoy a hard time next to both but Will just administer you my opinion on both because they both hold flaws. cable is easier to work with and hand over you more packages to choose from and do not scramble or go out within bad weather or silver things without admonition. Cable problem is that it's too expensive and they are always raise the rates.
Direct TV the price is OK but when you watching a good and your into it it sometimes scramble or basically goes out.
