Component is comparable to HDMI but S video is not even close. It's basically a step up from Composite (Red/White/Yellow)

it wont give you equal quality as HDMI no concern what these cables are far better next anything I have used up to that time. I had to use componet cable the other day and I detested my TV for the 1st time
