720p or more for 32" TV? Looking for a 32" HD television.

Looking for a 32" HD television.

Most of the unit I looked at in Best Buy be 720p. Is this because the benefits of anything greater are lost on such a relatively small screen? I appreciate broadcast HD is maxed out today at 720p - but contained by the future may not be.

I'm not a big video gamer, and don't own a blu-ray DVD player - though having said that I do own an xbox 360 and plan on buying a PS3 (ironic I know). What i tight-fisted is, i'm not so hardcore as to care something like the difference when it comes to games.

So this is just a standard enquiry as to whether or not the difference between 720p and 1080p is discernible on a 32" eyeshade.

As far as I know, at hand is only one 32" 1080P set, and that is to say made by Sharp.
The reason that near aren't many small 1080P sets is that below 50", it's almost other a waste of money.
Broadcast TV go up to 1080i, so a 1080P set would be preferable for that, if it were big satisfactory to see the difference.
High def DVD players and some games are 1080P, but 720P sets do a fine job of downscaling them.
As the cost difference between 720P and 1080P sets continues to drop, you can expect them to be made within smaller sizes, just to build a few extra bucks. Anyone telling you broadcast will someday be complex than 720p is smoking dope. The National (and international) standards make no provision for high resolution broadcasts. a major rework of the broadcast system woudl again be required to see 1080p display as the bandwidth required is 2X the 6MHz allocated in the Digital Broadcast spec.

The individual soruces fo 1080p content for the next 10-20 years will be Blu-Ray DVD's and video games.

Whatever the situation, 1080p talented display is totally wasted on any TV smaller than 50" The singular reason to select such a large resolution would be to use the TV as a computer monitor where you would sit down less than 2 foot from the screen. It would issue then.
