The best TV you can buy is a NEC XR411 Series.
It is a plasma.
The best TV for you will depend
1. on your needs ( the principal reason for its purchase )
2. the size of the room it is surrounded by
3. if your x-box as HDMI output ( if it doesnt you will be WASTING MONEY )
If you will mainly use your TV for x-box , examine sport or movies I would strongly suggest you purchase a Plasma because they dont lag near a fast moving picture.
$1200 may obtain a Samsung LCD TV in 42" , but it would be on special although the prices are getting cheaper by the month.
Personally I imagine you would be better off buying a Plasma as they are more robust than a LCD (especially if you enjoy a young family)
Remember you bring back what you pay for - I recommend you spend no LESS than $1500 and purchase a brand moniker. You should also extend the factory warranty at least 2 yrs and gross sure the warranty is called "on-site warranty" because this road if something goes wrong you dont enjoy to send the TV support , they come to you to fix it.
Also check to make sure your antenna is digital compliant because most TVs currently have in-built digital tuners and if your existing antenna is not of digital standard you will own to replace it to stop the TV from pixellating (form of digital interference)
New TVs can turn out to be one expense after another so look into what you are doing first before you buy any hot LCD or Plasma TV.
STEER CLEAR OF ALL REAR PROJECTION TVs
Hope this helps
Get an LCD - they've got loads of benefits over plasma and direct panorama (plasma or LCD) will have a better picture than backside projection.
If you want the biggest screen possible and can control the ambient insubstantial, consider an LCD projector (DLP has rainbow problems).
I own a 40" LCD and a an LCD projector (120" screen). Both are 1080p and I freaking love them. I honestly doubt you can find a GOOD TV within that size for $1200 without purchasing a NON-REPAIRABLE Tv brand,...
Disposable TV sets will cost you...nearly Twice what you pay for it...
And that's the in one piece idea next to them....make you buy TWO TVs within the same time as ONE Sony, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, or Panasonic....
But, they are affordable at partially the price...
IF you can get a Samsung...yes, attain it....
NEC is a KNOWN name Brand? I enjoy YET to see anybody selling NEC, even though they have be around since the 80's when I worked on them...
God, I hated waiting for those Ungodly expensive parts to FINALLY Arrive 6 weeks after that.
