No, there will still be free TV broadcasts on what are very soon analog channels 2 through 51. What are presently analog channels 52-69 will disappear. Channels 70-83 disappeared a long time ago.
This does not penny-pinching that a channel 55 will disappear. Unlike analog signals, digital subway numbers don't correspond to the VHF/UHF frequencies that are actually used. For marketing reason the digital stations use their old analog waterway number even if the actual (or "real") frequency is in another nouns.
If you use an analog TV with an antenna after 2/17/09 you will obligation to attach a converter box between your antenna and TV to receive the digital broadcasts.

In Australia our date is 2010 and if you havent got a DTV or Digital Set Top Box by after you wont receive any TV at all , so I would assume it would be same contained by most countries.
